The days of sending everything to the cloud are numbered. With increasing demands for low latency, privacy, and real-time processing, Edge AI has stepped into the spotlight - bringing intelligence closer to the source of data.

During my recent work in the utilities and healthcare sectors, we deployed AI models directly onto edge devices- like sensors and smart meters - to detect anomalies in power quality and predict failures before they happened. Instead of waiting for cloud-based batch processing, these edge devices could make instant decisions using lightweight machine learning models optimised for performance.

One of the most exciting parts? Empowered Edge Computing using Azure IoT Edge and Nvidia Jetson devices. We implemented vision-based object detection on-site in environments with poor connectivity, and the results were phenomenal - faster responses, improved safety, and operational savings.

Edge AI isn’t just a trend. It’s becoming the new norm for sectors like manufacturing, energy, healthcare, and logistics - where every millisecond counts.
