Empowered users with full control over their identity using blockchain-backed, self-sovereign digital credentials.
In a world where identity theft and data breaches are all too common, I set out on a mission with a brilliant team at ASB Bank to tackle digital identity differently. The result? Kauri ID – a self-sovereign identity platform powered by blockchain, putting people back in control of their personal information.
Rather than relying on central authorities, Kauri ID enables users to manage and share their credentials securely and selectively. We built the core on Ethereum smart contracts and Hyperledger Fabric, using IPFS for decentralised storage. Security was at the heart of it—privacy-preserving, cryptography-driven architecture gave users full autonomy over how their identity is verified.
The most rewarding part? Collaborating with over 15 organisations across New Zealand to bring the concept to life, bridging tech and trust in one of the most promising real-world blockchain use cases to date.

Building a secure and user-controlled digital identity system requires more than just innovative tech - it demands trust, privacy-by-design, and interoperability across ecosystems.
