Privacy Policy
Last updated: 20 October 2026
This policy explains what personal information vish.au collects, why, and what you can do about it. vish.au is the personal website of Vishnu Prakash Devarajan ("I", "me"), based in Auckland, New Zealand. I follow the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and, for visitors in Australia, the Australian Privacy Principles.
The short version
- I only collect what you choose to send me: a contact message, a blog comment or a newsletter sign-up.
- I don't sell your information or use it for advertising.
- The AI readiness check runs in your browser. Your answers are not sent to me unless you choose to include them in a message.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete what I hold about you at any time.
What I collect and why
Contact form
Your name, email address, subject and message, and any phone number or address you choose to enter. I use this to reply to you and keep a record of our conversation. Messages are stored in the website's database and sent to my email.
Blog comments
Your name, email address, optional website and your comment. Your name, website and comment are published; your email address is not. If you tick "save my details", your browser stores them in a cookie for next time.
Newsletter
If you subscribe, your email address. I use it only to send new posts and updates. Every email has an unsubscribe link.
AI readiness check
Your answers stay in your browser and are not stored on the server. If you press "Talk it through with Vish", a summary is copied into the contact form for you to review before sending.
Technical information
Like any website, the server and my security provider (Cloudflare) process your IP address and basic browser details to deliver pages and block attacks. Server logs are kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting. The "viewing from" location shown on the home page is worked out in your browser from its time zone and is not sent to me.
Cookies and similar storage
I use essential cookies to keep the site working and secure (for example, form protection and your cookie choice). Your browser also stores a few preferences locally, such as whether sound is on and whether you've seen the opening title. I don't currently use analytics or advertising cookies. See the Cookie Policy for detail.
Third-party content
The podcast player is provided by Spotify and only loads when you press "Play it here". Spotify then applies its own privacy policy and cookies. Links to SSRN, LinkedIn and other sites take you to services with their own policies.
Who else sees your information
Your information is handled by the providers that run the site: my web hosting provider, Cloudflare (security and delivery) and my email provider. Some of these providers may store or process information outside New Zealand, including in Australia and the United States. I use reputable providers and remain responsible for your information wherever it is processed. I don't share your information with anyone else unless the law requires it.
How long I keep it
Contact messages are kept for up to two years, then deleted, unless we have an ongoing working relationship. Comments stay published until you ask me to remove them. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe.
Security
The site uses HTTPS, spam and bot protection, and restricted admin access. No system is completely secure, so please don't send highly sensitive information through the contact form.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. Email [email protected] and I'll respond within 20 working days.
If you're not happy with my response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner in New Zealand, or the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner if you're in Australia.
Changes
If I change how I handle personal information, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
